'Internal crisis may affect the success of our party' - Adamu warns

The new National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has warned his party members that internal wrangling in the party may affect the fortune of the party in 2023 general elections if not not properly handled.

Speaking at the 11th NEC meeting of the party on wednesday in Abuja, Senator Adamu said the party must succeed, saying 'failure is not an option'.

Also speaking at the meeting, President Mohammadu Buhari urged party members to more be mindful of the pitfalls that ousted Peoples Democratic Party from power in 2015.

According to Buhari, the umbrella party thought that only time could oust them from power, believing that it was impossible to lose elections, and the time actually came in 2015 when APC sent them packing.

He reminded the party members that the APC was formed by a merger of Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party, some members from All Progressives Grand Alliance and the new PDP, which was a faction of the then ruling party.

The President pleaded with all litigants to withdraw cases against the party and put their faith in party mechanisms.

“We put together a committee with clear terms of reference on how to remove the PDP from power. The PDP thought it wasn’t going to be possible. But it happened,’’ he said.

“Now that NEC has vested its powers in NWC for the time being, as requested, and in compliance with the Party Constitution in the overall interest of the Party, I want to assure Mr. Chairman and the entire NWC members of my full support,’’ he said.
