Easter tragedy: Claratian University student dies while acting Peter



The students and staff of Claratian University, Nekede, Owerri, in Imo State were thrown into mourning yesterday following the death of a 100-level student of the university, Suel Ambrose who slumped and died while acting drama on the campus.

It was gathered that the Benue born student was dramatising the role of the biblical Peter in the Passion of Christ when the tragedy struck.

The 100-level student of Phylosophy died on the spot where he was taking in a drama which is a representation of the activities about how Jesus Christ was crucified.

According to a student who gave the account of the incident said the  young Ambrose was playing the role of the biblical Peter in the drama and that process when Peter cut the ear of one of the soldiers and Jesus fixed the ear and ask Peter to let them do their wish.

And at a point when the soldiers chase the disciples to drive them away from Jesus, the young man fell on the floor and started bleeding.

The 25-year old was rushed to the school hospital and the doctors did their best but  he did not respond to treatment and later referred to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.

"The drama was in commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in respect to the Easter celebration. He was born in 1997. He is a year one student and had the dream of becoming a priest in the Catholic church,” the student revealed.

The PUNCH observed that the school premises was quiet as there was no activity taking place with respect to the Easter celebration after the incident in the school.

The priest in charge of Student Formation in the university, Fr Chukwuemeka Iheme, when contacted said that the institution would brief the public after the “authority gives us permission to do so.”
